Murrell Askew was born 1811 in Tennessee and died 1884 at Lebanon, OK. He was 1/4 Choctaw Indian. He was a Baptist minister who later converted to the Christian Church. Murrell founded many churches in Alabama and Southern Oklahoma. He is buried in the Indian graveyard at the Burney Indian Institute School in Lebanon, OK.
